Dear 2020…

Well, what can we say? If you were looking for some type of blockbuster year, then we think you probably achieved it. There was no blueprint or roadmap for what you were about to deliver, it was unprecedented. Emotionally speaking, 2020 lasted approximately 12 months and 462 years!

Congratulations! And a round of applause to all of us who have hopefully survived 2020! 

And even though we were “All in this together” our experiences differed. For some there were wins but there were also devastating losses, and “Staying safe” took on quite a different meaning.

These all failed into significance when on the hunt for the elusive pack of toilet rolls! 

It’s hard to believe that so much happened in the span of just 12 months.  Who would have thought that wearing a face-mask while entering a store would be the norm? Becoming addicted to the next binge on Netflix, or quoting the incredulous knowledge of the “Tiger King’…These all failed into significance when on the hunt for the elusive pack of toilet rolls! 

But there was also a more serious side to you…One that made all of us take a closer look at the people we had become, at our beliefs and even who’s side we were on. It stripped us down as humans and made all of us realize that the simple things in life; love, family and health took precedence over everything else.

So we bid you farewell 2020, our annus horribilis, as we look back at all you gave us and hope and pray that we can trust the New Year of 2021.

January

In early January the news reported about a new virus which was related to SARS. Little did we know what was to come for the world. Later in the month the very first case hit the US.

After Brexit the UK officially left the European Union and entered a transition period and Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they were stepping down as “Senior” Royals

February

Impeachment was made by the house on the President of the United States.

Former movie produce Harvey Weinstein was found guilty of third-degree rape and first-degree criminal sexual acts.

March

The WHO declared the virus as a world pandemic as countries started to lockdown including the US.

Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson were the first celebrity couple to confirm they had COVID-19. 

The show “Tiger King” became the perfect distraction as we all began to isolate.

April

The Pentagon released videos of possible UFO’s. 2020 was proving to be a year of “Anything could happen”

May 

Focus was shifted from the virus and it’s spread to the death of George Floyd sparking protests around the world.

2020 also saw the start of a large amount of devastating Hurricanes in one single year, so much so that we exhausted the normal list of names and headed into the Greek Alphabet!

May also saw the end of the Australian bush fires, which had been burning since June 2019.

June 

Three former police officers charged in connection with death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Global death toll from coronavirus COVID-19 passes 500,000

July

Kanye West announced he was running for President. He admitted later to smoking a little something to take the edge off!

Sports began to resume with cardboard cutouts taking the place of spectators.

August

Even though fires have always burned in the state of California, 2020 saw one of the biggest since records began. A total of 9,279 fires making 2020 the largest wildfire season recorded in California’s modern history.

We also made a number of general improvements to the software, including an improved notification system which we revamped and rebuilt and new enhancements to provide SCHEMA data that can help define and showcase businesses in search engines.

September

Shockingly, Covid-19 death reaches 1 million people worldwide.

Black Lives Matter gathered momentum after several shootings and rioters took to the streets

October

Covid hit the oval office as President Trump was diagnosed and hospitalized with the virus.

Global deaths from COVID-19 hits 1.8 million.

November 

In November we voted after a crazy Presidential race. Joe Biden won. President Trump disagreed, and tried to overturn the results in the courts.

SpaceX Falcon 9 launches first regular flight to International Space Station

The word of the year is “Lockdown” according to Collins English Dictionary.

December

Coca-Cola was named the world’s No. 1 plastic polluter. 

Chinese leader Xi Jinping says the country will reduce its carbon intensity by 65% by 2030.

The year reached its final conclusion when the UK becomes the first western country to authorize a vaccine for COVID-19 and the roll-out begins.
