A Trip to the Coffee Shop (With the Aid of Google My Business)

It is early Friday morning and I’m not finding any inspiration in my pantry for a delicious breakfast. I’ve run out of milk and coffee grounds for my daily cappuccino. The sun isn’t shining in through my windows properly like it usually does, making my studio apartment a food-less, caffeine-less, and sun-less place to get my brain waves running for work. This calls for a day trip to the café!

Now, I’m a very picky coffee-shopper. I need comfortable indoor and outdoor seating (I like to move around), a dog-friendly environment (I might want to bring Chloe along), a good ambiance and of course, delicious food and coffee.

The first step is to find my perfect coffee shop online! All I’m going to do is search in my Google browser “Best Coffee Shop in the Tampa Bay Area” to see what options I have. At the very top of the search list, a map in my area shows the locations of each shop under Google My Business Listings. I’d like to narrow it down my search to 4.5 stars and above to ensure that I will enjoy my coffee trip. I also want to be sure that it is actually open today and that the price isn’t sky-high.

Once I find a shop that appeals to me, I will read to find out if it has outdoor seating and is dog friendly. Google My Business will usually show me if there is wifi, different types of seating, and its other attributes. I chose “DI Coffee Bar” based upon its many good reviews, and it checked all of my boxes of requirements- there are over 150 reviews from what seems to be organic clients, a great 4.6 rating, outdoor seating, and … I can’t see if pets are allowed. I will use Google Q&A to find out!

The Google Q&A feature was launched in August of 2017 as part of Google my Business as a way to provide additional information about businesses that aren’t already discussed. It gives potential customers the chance to ask questions about the store and receive answers from either the business owners or another customer who has been there before.

Directly underneath the general business information lies the “Ask a question” button. I clicked it and simply inquired if small dogs were welcome. Surprisingly enough, I received 3 replies from three different sources within minutes! That’s the great thing about Google Q&A! You don’t have to wait hours and hours for a reply. And there were multiple responses, making me feel confident about bringing along Chloe without risk of being kicked out.

Decision made. DI Coffee Shop hit all of my criteria- indoor and outdoor seating, pets welcome, and according to their reviews, their selection of fresh food and coffees are delicious! I cannot wait to go!
